PDF Documents ~ Ponds; Pond Plants & Liners

One of our wildlife ponds in a local caravan park - we helped them gain the David Bellamy Gold Award

Remember, for a natural-looking pond, always minimise the slope into the pond, to enable the soil to cover the liner completely, and part of the pond should be at least 1m deep.
To enable you to achieve this, you should make your pond as big as possible.
Our 'rule of thumb' is: draw out the area you want your pond to cover, THEN MAKE IT BIGGER!! This will enable you to have shallower slopes (which means you can more easily hide the pond liner with soil), a more gentle gradient towards the deep bit (allowing more plants to grow).
The deep area should be fairly large, as this will limit the spread of vigorous pond edge plants. Ponds are a compromise: you have a limited area to work in; you need shallow slopes
so need a large pond; you need a reasonable area of deep water so need a large pond;
larger ponds self-regulate better and don't dry up; you have limited funds.
Go for the biggest pond you can make, as it will appear much smaller when the
vegetation gets going, and you want minimal maintenance.
We promise you won't regret it - small ponds can be problematic and disappointing.

We can now supply a safety grid system to prevent children and other animals from falling into your pond. It can be made to fit almost any size and shape of pond, from a half-barrel to a small lake. Please contact us for more information.

Please contact us with your questions, and we'll be happy to assist you with the design and construction of your pond - we can even do the hard work for you, if you wish.
